I'm afraid it'll get worse before it gets better, but I will resume posting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I cannot afford sixth edition for a while. Consider this an extension of hiatus. I can't say how long, certainly </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">less than a half year, longer than a month.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> But the Astute Daemon will return.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For sure, when the starter set comes out, I will be back. I can afford a 20 dollar book, but I can't justify spending eighty dollars on something that, frankly, is no real benefit to me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I thank the patience of you, the readers, who made this blog successful and will do so again.</span>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-17563008790519633452012-07-07T21:46:00.002-07:002012-07-07T21:51:59.703-07:00Another Announcement<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm afraid I'll have to go on hiatus again, seeing as I know nothing about 6th, and I'm running a warhammer 40k blog.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, unless a ben franklin shows up on my doorstep, it looks like I'll be out of it for a bit. Expect 2 weeks, maybe less, unlikely-ey more.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Feel free to email me anything, but... I only know 5th, which is largely inapplicable. :\</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really hate to do this to all of you.Let me tell you, it sucks to suddenly know nothing about my favorite hobby.</span>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-45026178891647528572012-07-07T06:53:00.000-07:002012-07-07T06:55:33.480-07:00Well, I'm back.<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And from looking around the interwebs a bit, it doesn't look good.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, give it to me straight, doc. How's 6th? Not just for Daemons, but in general. If it sucks... I might save my $80 and not play a game I don't like.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If the pros outweigh the cons, then ok, I'll keep at it.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But I'm really pissed that I have a hundred bucks of bloodcrushers that are terrible now.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">oh, and does anyone have a pdf of the new book? I'm a pirate. I'm going to know the new rules before I buy them.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-21388705821640995922012-06-26T09:00:00.000-07:002012-06-26T09:00:04.174-07:00Announcement<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, I have some bad news. I'm going to be out of town, and thus, not posting, from next saturday to friday.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That's right. I'm going to be out of town for 6th edition. Not that I could afford it, but you know. Still sucks.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, is there anything that anyone would like addressed regarding 6th, or saying goodbye to 5th?</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-2158341020888075532012-06-25T10:43:00.003-07:002012-06-25T10:44:01.311-07:00Battle Report: Daemons VS Grey Knights<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I convinced my brother (who picked up grey knights mostly to spite me) to play a 800pt battle, and decided it would be a great opportunity to do a battle report for the blog.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's his list</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Draigo, 275</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 paladins with halberds, 110</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3 paladins, one with a Daemonhammer and psycannon, one with an incinerator and halberd, and the other with a halberd. 190</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5-man Purgation squad, 4 psycannons, justicar has a Daemonhammer, rhino. 220</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's my list.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3 Chariots of Tzeentch, each with Bolt, WaL and MoS, 330</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5 Crushers, instrument, 205</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5 Horrors, Bolt, Changeling 100</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">9 bloodletters, 164</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The preferred half contained a chariot, the 5 horrors and 9 bloodletters, and the other half had 2 chariots and the 5 bloodcrushers.<a name='more'></a>We rolled Annihilation and Pitched battle. I won the roll off, and chose to go second. Grand Strategy was Hammer of Righteousness, and he used it on Draigo and the Purifiers.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The horrors were a bit closer than I liked to the non-draigo squad. They fired at the rhino, Bolt penned and stunned, and a warpfire glanced and shook- both were ignored by cover. The chariot fired Bolt and Gaze at the non-draigo squad, and wounded one with Gaze. <span style="color: blue;">First blood to Daemons!</span> The bloodletters ran 4", and used it to spread out, and hopefully block the non-draigo's assault to the horrors.</span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Purgators fire at the bloodletters, but I go "aha! Changeling!" turns out, the bloodletters are packed so dense they completely block LoS, which is required for the changeling's power. huh. <span style="color: blue;">The Purgators fire 8 shots at the bloodletters, and kill 6 of them, leaving three bloodletters alive.</span> Draigo and pals fire at the bloodletters, but the changeling controls their shooting! Draigo fails his psychic test for his brainflame, but the other paladin's storm bolters killed their justicar (with the hammer, remember) The other paladins, with the psycannonhammer and incinerator, kill the rest of the bloodletters with shooting. 1-0, Grey Knights.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The game was won and lost in the movement phase, really. Interestingly, the shooting did far more damage (killing all the bloodletters, remember?) than the ~600pt draigo-paladin combo. It's hard to draw solid conclusions from such a small game, but it is worth noting.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-72764979672951576202012-06-23T13:37:00.001-07:002012-06-23T13:37:15.256-07:00BAM! 6th edition video!<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's officially announced, not that we didn't know :P The video has some verrrrry nice shots of the book, pics and rules! I would advise pausing and reading them.</span><div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">beats this video by a long shot.</td></tr>

<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Curiously, there is a new vehicle type called "chariot": might Daemons be FAQ'd to have their chariots be vehicles?</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyways, other than that, I'm burned out from staying up too late, playing a 2000pt game against vanilla marines. We spent a lot of time shooting the breeze (his thundershields ended up starting a conversation about the Dark Angel's history), so it ended up taking 4 hours :P</span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Stupid new soul grinder <i>almost</i> killed his librarian in his first battle- librarian passed his 5++, and grinder got murdered by thundershields, and exploded, killing a bloodcrusher.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really wanted to name him Witchslayer, but I guess he's more of a Betrayer. :P</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">anyway, did any of you see anything interesting in the video?</span></div>

This is my story, of how I got into warhammer.</span><div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Around this week a year ago, I don't remember the exact day, I really started playing 40k. I'd been interested for a while. My friends played it, and were into the backstory. They let me borrow their Black Library novels, notably the Grey Knights Omnibus by Ben Counter.</span><div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/Grey-Knights-Omnibus.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/Grey-Knights-Omnibus.jpg" width="210" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I have since learned to loathe the Anathema's slaves.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>You'd think that reading about the Grey Knights beating up Daemons would cause me to like them, but I was enthralled by Tzeentch's plots, the maddened gibbering Daemons, the bizarre landscapes, the horrific, irreversible effect the presence of Chaos had on mere mortals.</span></div>
</div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started playing soon after, ordering a Daemon codex and a big ol' rulebook, and picking up a box of Horrors and Flamers. I also carved some proxies from foam, to get an idea of what units I liked. I figured out double-great unclean one was pretty fun. Then I played some games where a squad of hormagaunts annihilated one in one assault phase, a guardsmen blob destroyed one with first rank fire, second rank fire- basically I figured out it didn't work.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">About halfway through my first year, I realized that Daemons weren't very good.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I read. I scoured the internet, looking for every shred of tactical advice I could find, learning and devouring knowledge. I battled my one true rival, an eldar player and one the friends who first got me into the game, over and over again, each time being handed defeat after defeat. I grew as a player, learning more in each battle than I did with hours of reading.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Then I started giving everything Bolt of Tzeentch. I started slowly, oh so slowly, shifting my entire army to be shooting-based. I thought it was madness! And maybe it was, but it worked, and works. Even Daemons <i>don't need much close combat </i><b style="font-style: italic;">at </b><u style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">ALL.</u> </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Around then I started the blog, feeling like I was ready. I'd been toying with the idea for a while. Shortly after, I got on the faeit212 blogexchange, and it really took off.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It was a while before I battled my rival again, months, as our schedules were often at odds. One day, however, we got a game in at the Games Workshop, and I finally beat him, in one of the best battles I've had for a long time.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some time passed, and my rival has taken a hiatus from 40k, deciding to focus on more important things. I can hardly blame him, I've considered it myself on several occasions.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, with 6th rapidly approaching, (and I'm going to have to blow eighty bucks on the rulebook. Ugh.) I thought I'd post my story.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, what are your guys' (or gals. Not that I've seen any on this blog, but I'm sure they stop by.) stories? Sing to me the song of your people, as it goes.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">also, yes the post is late. I was busy.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-56807254770709266032012-06-21T11:12:00.001-07:002012-06-21T11:12:43.960-07:00discussion<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Looks like there won't be a post today, as I have work to do. With a bunch of mathhammer, I am going to solve the problem.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Consider this an addition to the Elites review.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Beasts of Nurgle are out.</span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"doesn't anyone love me?"</td></tr>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We'll use closely points-equivalent squads of each-</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">210pts, 7 Fiends. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">205pts, 5 Flamers with Bolt.</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> 210 pts,</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">200pts, 5Bloodcrushers.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In each chart, the green cel is the one that did the best.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First we'll look at their anti-infantry: how many GEQ, MEQ, TEQ and carniFEX they kill on the charge (or flame, assuming flaming hits 4 models each)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I checked warpfire for the flamers, it's worse than Breath.</span></div>
<div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's slightly surprising that Bloodcrushers are better at killing MEQ and TEQ than flamers- only by one model, mind you, but it is surprising. Fiends are far and away the best at killing GEQ, but the lack of power weapons seriously hampers their ability to kill tougher opponents.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now let's look at Anti-tank. One flamer will use Bolt, the rest will use Breath. There will be 3 separate charts, for stationary, combat speed and cruising speed, and each chart will have the full range of AV's. P for penetrating, G for Glancing.</span></div>

</tbody></table>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Bloodcrusher's high toughness is their primary defense, more so than their armor save. This shows when they perform better in the face of S4 power weapons, but when their high toughness is bypassed, the Fiend's weight of numbers shows through.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, this whole thing shows pretty well what we already know. Flamers are meh at everything. Fiends' low cost lets them be durable tank hunters and guardsmen killers, and Bloodcrushers can tear through almost any non-vehicle, and absorb silly amounts of anti-infantry firepower.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-56785843564639552222012-06-19T07:32:00.001-07:002012-06-19T07:32:45.817-07:00New rumors! How do these affect Daemons?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There's a whole new batch <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.com/2012/06/white-dwarf-6th-edition-rule-leaks.html#more" target="_blank">over at Natfka</a>, and I would advise reading them first.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Holy crap. First off, massive buffs to flying MC's, and some nice tweaks to MC's in general. Bloodthirsters and winged DP's are looking much more attractive now.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">HQ's can be scoring, if you choose the right attribute. Last turn objective grab with a Chariot? yes please!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">ALLIES are almost certainly for a main army and a detachment in the same army! I can't wait to see what's in the new CSM codex!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now... it worries me that they state MC's are AP2... is that implying power weapons are AP3? Worried...</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Psychic disciplines, don't know how much effect they'll have until the book is in hand.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Buyable terrain... awesome. I'll take an autocannon or whatever, thankyouverymuch.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Models removed from the front... honestly, I kind of like this. I don't like the hassle of wound allocation now, and people standing there going "yeah... hang on... I'm thinking...." because every single one of their stupid paladins is too special to die.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>One of them took a Bolt of Tzeentch to the face! WHICH ONE DIED?</i></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Assault range is 2d6. Alright... liking this, actually. You won't roll under a 6 most of the time, I am totally fine with this.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hull points. This, along with the vehicle nerfs, does exactly what was needed to be done to vehicles- make light ones weaker, and heavier ones stronger.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Overwatch :D Flamers jump in, burn, overwatch, burn again! Not sure that's exactly how it works, but if it sacrifices shooting that phase for instant shooting later, it still might be a good option for a lot of units.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-86242028245502431062012-06-18T09:13:00.001-07:002012-06-18T09:13:09.213-07:00The Daemon's Lair- Black Crusade<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I won't talk about 6th edition or what I think of it: there are plenty of other, more experienced people talking about it. Instead, I'll be discussing Black Crusade, a 40k RPG by Fantasy Flight Games. I'm doing it now, as I missed friday |:(</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.creaturespot.com/storage/Black-Crusade_Corruptis.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1314796496214" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.creaturespot.com/storage/Black-Crusade_Corruptis.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1314796496214" width="224" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"Hm, the main character's inner conflict is intriguing, a shame the author didn't expand on it more."</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>In Black Crusade, you play as a Heretic, one who has forsaken the crumbling Imperium, either Human or Marine. The Marines are unashamedly better in combat, but Humans can mitigate this by fighting more cautiously- picking off a guardsmen here and there, as opposed to just ramming into combat. Humans can do a bit more out of combat than their superhuman allies: Hereteks, for example, can repair and improve arms and armor.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The system is built on d10's and d100's. D100's (rolling 2 ten-sided die, using one as the "ten's" digit and the other as the "one's") are usually used for stat-based tests, as stats are on a scale of 1-100. For example, to pass a challenging(+0) Strength test, I would need to roll lower than my Strength of 40, average for a Space Marine. Rolls can be modified for easier or more challenging tests, so a routine(+10) test would add 10 to the characteristic being used.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Combat takes place in structured time, with each character getting one round, in real time, lasting a few seconds. There are different actions that can be done within an round, like <b>Aim</b>, a half action, which improves the next Weapon skill or Ballistic Skill test by 10. A character may only use one "attack" type action per round, like firing a gun, swinging a sword, or using a damaging psychic power. <b>Basic attacks</b>, like firing a single shot or making one melee attack, add +10 to the characteristic, and consume a half action.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, say I'm engaged in combat, and I want to whack someone with my power sword. I would spend my round by using <b>Aim</b>, a half action, and <b>Basic Attack</b>, another half action. Total, this adds +20 to my Weapon Skill test, so if I had a Weapon Skill of 40, average for a Space Marine, I would need a 60 or lower. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The odds, not just here, but throughout the system, come out pretty close to how they would in 40k, so if you're familiar with that system, you have a pretty good idea of how good weapons are. Like, don't bother using a laspistol on a terminator.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Armory and Enemies sections are extensive, covering a vast range of enemies and weapons, from flintlock muskets to the Q'sal glass dagger, from a guardsmen to a Tomb Stalker, to a Dark Eldar mandrake- anything you don't find in the Bestiary is most likely in another of Fantasy Flight's 40k RPG's, and they can be shuffled between books with few issues.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In fact, the GM chapter has a whole section devoted to cross-compatability, if you want to play as a Grey Knight from the Dark Heresy expansion, in the company of Heretics, or have a rebel Psyker in the retinue of a Rogue Trader.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I like how item acquisition works. Rather than buying them with currency, a test is made against the character's Infamy stat, with modifiers depending on the weapon's rarity, any upgrades or downgrades, and quantity. For example, if my Infamy 40 character (as famous as the leader of a minor warband) wants one(+10) item that is scarce(+0), with an upgrade(-10). With the modifiers added together, he needs to roll a 40 or lower.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Playing as a Heretic offers great roleplaying opportunities- the only limits are what you set, and that of your character- there is no law that you must follow, no Imperium telling you where to go. The sheer variety of worlds that can be visited is fantastic: feral worlds, death worlds, bustling, dreary hives, anything. The fluff of the 41st millenium, arguably more interesting than the tabletop game itself, is the world that the players explore.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The game takes place in the Screaming Vortex, within which is the Hadex Anomaly. If you look at the map in the 5th edition rulebook, that's not far from Ultramar, the Tau Empire, and a Tyranid Hive fleet. There's also an ancient space bridge that takes a ship to the Calixis sector, if one wishes to visit the Eye of Terror. Like I said, the roleplaying opportunities of it are it's greatest strength.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A tip to any GM's, a Dreadclaw makes for a fantastic way to start a mission, thundering down from the clouds, then roaring back up to orbit when the mission is over.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you're looking for a way to play online, with friends that have moved away or you don't see often, check out <a href="http://roll20.net/">roll20.net</a>.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-32323192907096312382012-06-16T08:31:00.000-07:002012-06-16T08:31:23.113-07:00What the rumors mean for Daemons<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1ku22rWOu1qh9u44o1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1ku22rWOu1qh9u44o1_500.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First off, I am going over all the rumors I've heard of, no matter how unlikely they are. There's a bunch of new ones over at <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.com/2012/06/6th-edition-rumors-hull-points.html" target="_blank">Natfka</a>, so you might want to look at those.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We'll start with Allies. This will bump Daemons, and every army except poor, poor Tyranids. There's several things Daemons would want from Chaos Marines- melta, Heavy weapons in general, and transports. (Note that bloodcrushers are infantry. This means you can put 8 in a rhino they steal from another unit) </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Good options look like Havocs, Sorcerers for psychic powers that Daemons lack and may need, depending on how 6th psychic powers pan out, and... anything that strikes your fancy.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Depending on how the allies chart pans out, it looks like they can get stuff from Tau. Broadsides, yay!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>Power Weapon changes only hurt Daemons. AP3 power weapons means you'll have to find another way to deal with terminators than killing them with Bloodcrushers. :( And the 5++ they give is already standard on Daemons.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hate AP3 power weapons. As if Marines needed another advantage over every other army.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyways. Moving on. There's quite a few rules that generally nerf vehicles, and that's very helpful. In short, be more careful with and/or don't bring soul grinders.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">BS1 Reaction fire makes Flamers absolutely deadly. They can jump in, Flame, then when they get charged, Flame again. Nothing will live. ! Actually, Flamers may entirely replace Bloodcrushers, seeing as they just "ignore armor," so they can melt Terminators!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bloodcrushers were always expensive anyways. Though I'll be sad to see them go.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5+ FNP makes Nurgle cry... unless you bring Epidemius! Then you'll still be saving on 3's once you kill enough models! Fun!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jump Infantry getting one attack at I10 on the charge... not actually that helpful to Daemons. Furies still don't have power weapons, Winged DP's are still insanely expensive, Bloodthirsters still shouldn't be fighting infantry, and Keepers of secrets don't fly, and just have all their attacks at I10.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Overall, I think Daemons will be unintentionally helped by 6th, mostly via the general vehicle nerfs, but also flamers being death machines.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">at least, if the rumors are all true. Which is doubtful. But the recent ones seem to hold water.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-83965321178106369212012-06-15T07:53:00.001-07:002012-06-15T07:53:40.110-07:00Discussion?<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This close to 6th, I'm reluctant to give any advice that will be outdated in 10 days.</span><div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As we don't have a whole lot of choice in each slot, it's inevitable to spam whatever unit it is. Good thing Tzeentch has some good units!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Every single unit in this army can kill a tank. Even then, it has less firepower than most Marine armies. Go figure.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mobility is your friend in this list, careful placement of units will make or ruin you: keeping the grinders back until all the melta is dead, then rushing them in once they are silenced is key to the list. Dropping the Grinders safely is particularly challenging, so you might want to cut out some screamers to put an icon on one of the Horror squads.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5 flamers, with breath of chaos, will destroy nearly any unit in the game in one shot. But again- be careful.</span>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-50275701846015997242012-06-13T08:51:00.001-07:002012-06-13T08:51:26.673-07:00How-to: Mono-Tzeentch<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've been toying around with the idea of running an Mono-tzeentch army, and as with all one-god armies, each unit's value shifts somewhat. This will be a mini-review, revisiting each Tzeentch unit, and analyzing how good they are if they can't rely on the other gods.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">first, some overall strengths and weaknesses.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/king-o-rock/20090719_LiberAnimus2_0179.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/king-o-rock/20090719_LiberAnimus2_0179.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?220124-Eyes-of-Tzeentch-Daemon-Army-Complete" target="_blank">Warseer</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The universal 4++ is arguably their greatest advantage: every model is free from relying on cover, which is excellent for a shooting-based force.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Most of their shooting, while pretty good, is short-ranged, and this is bad when they can't be in close combat. They need some sort of counter-assault unit if they don't want to be destroyed third or fourth turn.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The abundance of Bolt of Tzeentch means they will have no problem cracking open rhinos and other low-AV vehicles. Of course, they then need to deal with the infantry inside.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now let's look at the units, and if they solve the aforementioned problems sufficiently.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a></span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Lord of Change</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">still worthless.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Fateweaver</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">re-rolling 4++ is good, and he can hang back with nearly any unit and help any situation, many times all at once: Daemonic Gaze and Breath can be used on infantry, and at the same time, he can lob a Bolt at something else, and BS5 doesn't hurt either. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">He's useful, but remember, he's expensive. Make sure he's worth it.</span></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Chariots of Tzeentch, with Bolt, WaL, and MoS</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">No, there are no other kinds of Heralds of Tzeentch. These ones are the best 110 pts you will ever spend. The reason I don't bring Kairos is because he's more expensive than 3 of these, and these put out way more firepower. They're fast, so they can get into side arcs, and durable: 4 of them on the field can mess up opponent's target priority pretty well. Spread them out, and kill some for me!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Flamers of Tzeentch</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These are your psuedo-close combat units: bring 3 4-6 squads with Bolt of Tzeentch, and let them do counter-assaulting, tank-wrecking, or aggressive anti-infantry as the need arises. Without an actual assault unit to back them up, you have to pick your fights more carefully than before, but they can still be very effective. Make sure to kill entire units at once, so they can't assault back.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Pink Horrors</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First off, get the changeling, and write on your hand "whenever he declares shooting, remember the Changeling." I've forgotten to use him many times, get your 5 pts worth!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As for the pink horrors themselves, they'll be doing the bulk of the anti-infantry. Give them Bolt so they can threaten a variety of units. If you need a sacrificial unit, or something to take the charge instead of flamers, use these.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> They're versatile, use them creatively. Kill a couple models while holding an objective, or just tie up that one devastator squad. Get 5-man squads with Bolt, and they'll do just fine. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Screamers</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Get a squad or two of these to kill anything that Bolt can only tickle- they will, most likely, be suicide units, but try to get multiple uses out of them if you can.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Soul Grinders</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ok, so they're technically undivided, but meh. paint them Tzeentchy.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Use them for <i>real</i> counter-assault, but only use them to kill expensive models: a ten-man squad of termagaunts will keep it there the whole game, but it will rip through some terminators. Use Phelgm and Tongue to kill <i>anything</i> that you <i>really</i> need dead, from a heavy weapons team to a land raider.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you bring a Soul Grinder, use the rest of your army to kill any melta your opponent has <i>immediately.</i> After that, he will be unstoppable! Especially if you bring 2 or 3!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Tzeentch Daemon Prince</b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another BS5 Bolt is always appreciated, and he's no slouch in combat, either. If you give him Gaze or Breath, he may help with anti-infantry, but it's not very point-efficient. Just get another Flamer instead.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Keep him on the front lines, adding another Bolt or digging some flamers out of combat.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">(Come to think of it, if Breath of Chaos is 30 pts everywhere you try to get it, does that mean that a flamer without it would cost only 5 pts? I want some of those, as Troops, preferably.)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next post, I'll do a list as an example.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-38275116313095973542012-06-12T10:57:00.001-07:002012-06-12T10:57:40.966-07:00Daemons- not bad, just the worst.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics14/img4adc78037e93d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics14/img4adc78037e93d.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was talking to my brother the other day about the situation Daemons are in. When I stated they were awful, and Grey Knights were amazing, he replied "oh yeah? Then how come you haven't lost a game for 6 months?" (I've been playing for a year, btw)</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"well... I don't know."</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"And you shouldn't complain about anti-tank! You kill every vehicle the other person puts on the board!"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"Because I HATE vehicles! And my entire army's focus is destroying them and getting to the people inside!"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"So is <i>everyone's</i> army."</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In short, the discussion, and some recent battles, brought some stuff to the front of my mind. Namely- Maybe daemons aren't terrible. Maybe they're just the worst.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>There is a big difference- they don't suck, they're just the worst. It's not that they're bad, it's that everyone else is better. They're average, with clear strengths and weaknesses, but that's not enough<i>.</i> To be competitive, a codex needs to be <i>amazing,</i> with mind-boggling strengths and difficult-to-exploit weaknesses.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I can make a mediocre codex work, but I can make an amazing codex work <i>wonders.</i></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And I think that's a problem with the way current codices are "balanced": if just "good" isn't good enough, if a codex needs to ignore every rule and make up their own in order to be on a level playing field, there's a problem. Codices shouldn't be an arms race of who can have the most insanely effective, undercosted units.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hope 6th doesn't continue their current philosophy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. And if they do, I'm going with Project Biomorph, after giving 6th a try.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Because Sirbiscuit and friends respect Xenos, and the players. To quote, they don't enforce GW's "mushroom strategy: keep us in the dark and feed us crap."</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We'll wait. And see. But I want to face Space Wolves across the table and enjoy the game, as a contest between equals- codex, list, and general.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-46052557621214822992012-06-10T08:07:00.001-07:002012-06-10T08:07:56.872-07:00Mathhammer: doing it right?<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I was exploring the wild and wonderful internets, where I found this</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Kidding, I mean <a href="http://www.houseofpaincakes.com/2011/07/user-content-wednesday-40k-theory-its.html#more" target="_blank">this</a>, an article by Nikephoros over at House of Paincakes, regarding Mathhammer and how to apply it.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I tried the method he presented on the list in <a href="http://astutedaemon.blogspot.com/2012/05/chaos-daemons-review-part-x-general.html" target="_blank">this</a> article, and this is what I got.</span></div>
<div>
<b id="internal-source-marker_0.7793925977312028" style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DMS: 36.742</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DMCC: 27.78</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DRPG: 59.01</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DLRPG: 32.708</span></b>
</div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">now, if you compare it to stelek's list, or really, any of them, you can see why Daemons struggle with anti-tank. However... the DRPG and DLRPG scores are skewed. They assume that Daemons are on the board the whole game, which they aren't. Adjusted for how long the average unit is off the board, it comes out like this:</span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DMS: 36.742</span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DMCC: 27.78</span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DRPG: 47.208</span></b></div>

<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">DLRPG: 26.166</span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">ah. See, that's pitiable. It's very clear from this where Daemons, at least my shooting-heavy list, strengths and weaknesses lie. Penetrating hits are hard to come across against Land Raiders, more common against Rhinos, but the anti-MEQ ability is staggering, at range at in combat.</span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div>
<b style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">So what do your lists look like, broken down so? I'm curious how well this system can objectify strengths and weaknesses of a list.</span></b></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-22580958499904777752012-06-09T09:55:00.002-07:002012-06-09T09:55:55.281-07:00Slaanesh: One Man's Struggle.<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ok, some of you may know that Slaanesh is my least favorite Chaos god, fluff and rules. His/her/it's units clash with my playstyle in every way. They're fast, sure, but they're mind-numbingly shallow, and I believe massed rending is far too unreliable to beat out massed power weapons. They rely on hitting first, and killing the opponent entirely, but with their poor strength (and, you know, rending instead of power weapons) they simply can never pull it off. They usually kill about half of the opponent, then whatever lived murders their face off during a few more rounds of combat.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://pinkie.ponychan.net/chan/files/src/133904135219.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://pinkie.ponychan.net/chan/files/src/133904135219.png" width="285" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">pictured: more threatening than Seekers.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, I hear some people saying "but Fiends are pretty good! They're fast, tough-ish, and they can waste tanks!" what else, imaginary crowd? </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"And they kill elite infantry! Because they can hit before the opponent, and do tons of damage with loads of attacks!" Before they get murdered, of course. "Oh, yeah." You sure we aren't talking about Flamers?</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"Huh?" Yep. Flamers. Think about it. They're fast, can kill tanks from further away than fiends without having to rely on Run! rolls. They can kill GEQ (guardsmen equivalents) infantry from further away than Fiends, with Warpfire. And finally, they kill elite infantry by striking first with loads of auto-hit power weapon attacks.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Let me explain. Flamers burninate in the shooting phase, which is, in practice, Initiative 11. Each one gets 3-6 attacks, depending on their opponent's arrangement: however, these attacks automatically hit, wound on 4's, and ignore armor. This is vastly superior to whatever Fiends can throw out, or bloodcrushers for that matter. And after that, they die (unlike bloodcrushers) but then again, so do Fiends.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And they can do all this, anti-tank, anti-GEQ, anti-elite, on the turn they drop.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Slaanesh is almost always outclassed by other units. It's topped by anything with Bolt of Tzeentch for anti-tank, and anything Khorne-ey for killing power. Sure, it could be argued that it sort of does 2 things- but the fragility is inexcusable. Lasguns kill them in droves. Any close combat unit worth their points will destroy them in an assault phase (grey knights with halberds come to mind) and they have to rely on 6's to kill even a 3+ armor.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I don't like relying on 6's. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hate Slaanesh. Daemons are random and fragile and struggle against vehicles enough, I don't need Slaanesh enhancing all of those problems. If other people use them, fine. Go nuts. They're fairly cheap, (and they ought to be) they're good at rooting units out of cover. But I don't like units that can't go toe-to-toe with the worst realspace has to offer. A warrior that preys on the weak, and can but beg for mercy against the strong, is hardly a warrior at all.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'll get bloodcrushers, Flamers, Chariots of Tzeentch, Pink Horrors, Soul Grinders, Plaguebearers, and Daemon Princes of Tzeentch. Come at me.</span></div>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-23720665072757316792012-06-08T09:47:00.001-07:002012-06-08T09:47:56.823-07:00The Daemon's Lair- mumblings of what is to come.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cbstudios.co.uk/communities/8/004/005/624/758/images/4530564570.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://cbstudios.co.uk/communities/8/004/005/624/758/images/4530564570.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's Friday, so it's time for my weekly editorial, the Daemon's Lair. Today I'll be offering my opinion of the rumors of 6th, and the upcoming Chaos Marines codex: go to <a href="http://natfka.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Natfka</a> if you don't know what I'm talking about.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I think about 75% of what we've heard about 6th is false, namely, close combat AP values (or at least the ones listed), but the most recent set of rumors from grant seem fairly reliable.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I don't like "mysterious terrain:" nobody like dangerous terrain, and the game doesn't need it. When's the last time you played a game and said "Man, I wish I didn't even <i>know</i> if that terrain was dangerous, difficult, or clear!"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a name='more'></a>Close combat AP values seem like an even worse idea, especially with power weapons being AP3 They make anything with a 2+ save immensely more dangerous in close combat, and power weapons much less useful- there would need to be edits in every codex to increase the points cost of a 2+ save, and vastly decrease the cost of stock-standard power weapons.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If they don't... terminators will become immensely more powerful, as they have both AP2 and a 2+ save, to say nothing of thundershield terminators. Oh, and Grey Knight's ubiquitous daemonhammers will also be a major strength. And Xenos, who have little to no access to either? Nerfed.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hope none of this is true. I hope GW is smarter than this, and thought this through at all.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Chaos Marines... honestly, legions or not, I'm just glad to see them getting a new codex. And if allies happens, Daemons could get better by being able to pull from their codex!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xtE1Enp9TWU/T89sIDEy-DI/AAAAAAAAAHo/jzwBFSj2IuQ/s1600/draigoandfriends.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xtE1Enp9TWU/T89sIDEy-DI/AAAAAAAAAHo/jzwBFSj2IuQ/s400/draigoandfriends.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yeah, I hate them too.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I apologize for the no-post yesterday- it was my birthday. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Grey Knights ought to be an auto-lose for Daemons- I mean, not only is Grey Knights the newest Power Armor Mat Ward Codex, and Daemons are the 4th ed. rejects, but Grey Knights are unashamedly specifically designed to kill Daemons!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">However, it's not that straightforward.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Daemons actually negate many of the smaller advantages that Grey Knights hold, namely, their universal Nemesis Force Weapons are largely ineffective- oh sure, the leadership-check-or-you-die is there for Daemons, but power weapons are considerably less helpful, and the Force Weapon quality is completely worthless. They pay points for this, and the fact that it doesn't help means wasted points for them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">However, they have some other tricks. Hammerhand is a pain across the board, though at least S10 daemonhammers aren't that big a deal. Re-rolling against us is another insult to injury, but despite all this, Daemons still dominate close combat. And do you know why?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Invulnerable saves. Where Grey Knights have them, they pay for them, and usually something else too. Terminators pay for their armor, which daemons ignore- that 5++ isn't worth 20 pts, that's for sure.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> For Daemons, not just in Close Combat, but the whole battle, It's all about removing points efficiency, ignoring things that Grey Knights pay through the nose for. Paladins? One Bolt of Tzeentch insta-kills one. Purifiers? Flamers of Tzeentch will destroy the entire squad in one burning.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And Grey Knights often fail to take advantage of one, vital weakness of Daemons: Heavy Armor. Grey Knights rarely bring Land Raiders, usually opting for the flashier, faster Stormraven, and this is good- it pays for melta immunity (ignored), it's two anti-tank heavy weapons (largely worthless, and if it goes for anti-infantry... still worthless, nobody's scared of a heavy bolter, an assault cannon and maybe more bolters) and all it's other special rules, but at the end of the day, a properly equipped Daemon army can handle an AV12 vehicle, and there goes your 205 pt flying brick.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Everything that Grey Knights get is expensive, because they have something that they pay for- ignore whatever it is, which daemons CAN DO, and watch the army crumple.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Does it shoot? Kill it with bloodcrushers. Does it assault? Kill it with flamers and chariots. Does it do both? Your opponent payed way too much for it, do whatever it sucks at (protip- it sucks at something, there's no such thing as a unit that's legitimately good at both)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, and keep your S</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">oul Grinder in the back, Phelgming anything with a 3+ armor.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For Grey Knights... honestly, you don't need a tactica. You're Grey Knights versus Daemons. Figure it out.</span>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-87933837759688983662012-06-04T08:10:00.000-07:002012-06-04T08:12:57.710-07:00Email in: 2000pt Undivided, 4-herald list<br />

<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The total anti-tank of this list is 2 BS4 bolts of tzeentch, and 2 BS3 bolts of Tzeentch. At 2000 pts, it's hardly enough. On average, that's 1 penetrating hit on AV11 per turn, and that's about a 50% chance to destroy the tank: and that's <i>if everything</i> is on the board: not dead, not in reserve, and that happens very rarely.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">

<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1/2 (optimistically) a dead rhino per turn means that all the horrifically devastating anti-infantry that the list brings will never come into play.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">a Daemon list, it it's all on the field, ought to be able to put out at least 3 penetrating hits on AV11 per turn, at range.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This isn't a surefire way of saying "I'll get three pens per turn!" It's more of a guideline to see, objectively, if there is enough anti-tank in a list.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The way I calculate this is by adding up all the bolts of Tzeentch, dividing them by their chance to hit, and then by their chance to penetrate AV11, then doing the same for Tongue on Soul Grinders. Thus, your list averages 1 pen on AV11.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The funny thing is that Daemons never need to try to get anti-infantry- it almost comes accidentally, after you've begged, borrowed and stolen for anti-tank. I'll let you figure out how to get the 3 pens on average, but protip- Quad-chariot never lets me down.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Feel free to bring the 20-daemonette squad (the bloodcrushers don't need to be 8-each- 5 is plenty for most purposes), but make sure you aren't losing anti-tank for the sake of CC. Most armies can't come close to Daemon CC, so don't build it up to an imaginary standard.</span></div>
<div style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.917969); color: #222222; font-size: 16px;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As per the request of Ron_Fury, this segment of Against the Warriors of Realspace is sizing up Daemons versus the Great Devourer, Tyranids.</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The most common, and generally most successful Tyranid build is T6 spam (I do not use spam derogatorily- I am all for using the most effective unit in every slot.), so I'll focus on that, but there really isn't a "majority" build for Daemons, so I'll analyze commonly used units, after the break.<a name='more'></a>We'll start with the Daemons. Chariots of Tzeentch (a herald of tzeench with a chariot, bolt, We are Legion and Master of Sorcery) They can reliably put 1-2 wounds on T6/3+, between Bolt of Tzeentch and Daemonic Gaze. If all 4 fire on one, they could bring it down from 24" away, and being able to down a T6 MC every turn is pretty strong: Target priority is important, as you have to know which monstrous creatures need to go first: clever Tyranid players can manipulate and confuse target priority: what you want is every monstrous creature to have lost a wound or two, rather than all be unwounded and one dead.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Great Unclean Ones are devastatingly effective against other monstrous creatures: hitting on 3's and re-rolling 2's to wound is excellent, and they have 5 wounds and, more importantly, a 4++ to defend them from other Monstrous Creatures. A Daemon player will want to get it in combat with key Monstrous Creatures, but it's slow speed makes it easy to avoid and throw an alternate unit at it. Hormagaunts with Poison are brutally effective at killing them: about 20 can kill one in 2 turns of combat, and take 3 or so casualties back.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Actually, Poisoned Hormagaunts are a pretty good solution to most Daemon units: they're fast enough to catch even a Tzeentch Chariot, do insane damage on the charge, and strike before everything but slaanesh. Overkill is good here: if something like bloodcrushers gets to attack back, they can easily wound them and force No Retreat! wounds, killing the hormagaunts by the dozens.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tervigons are a good choice for Tyranids. The ability to create free, throwaway units is fantastic, and they can be used to tie dangerous enemies for the duration of the game: use them to assault Soul Grinders, Great Unclean Ones, Tzeentch Chariots, Daemon Princes: any one-model threat will be silenced by a 10-14 squad of termagaunts. Bloodletters and bloodcrushers, however, will destroy the unit in one turn and attack the tervigon that spawned them.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bloodcrushers in general will be a problem for Tyranids, but there are ways of dealing with them. Massed termagaunt shooting will kill them, especially from Devourer Termagaunts. Two Monstrous Creatures will kill a 3-4 man squad in assault, but be warned- the Monstrous Creatures will take a few wounds.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hive Guard, a common unit in Tyranid lists, will find a role against daemons. They can force saves on Daemons from outside line of sight, putting wounds on key models. They won't kill anything by themselves, but the added wounds will be appreciated.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That's all I got at the moment. I think it's a pretty even match: the Tyranid's ability to bring so many bodies, T6 and otherwise, is a great advantage, but Daemon's eternal warrior and specifically their invulnerables help them stand their ground, making their lower model count work for them.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, but an Epidemius list kills Tyranids. Period.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's Friday, so today's post will be the Daemon's Lair, my weekly editorial! This is where I discuss non-tactics, once a week.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As you all are no doubt aware, Project Biomorph released their first ruleset! (<a href="http://projectbiomorph.com/index.php?topic=82.0" target="_blank">link</a>: download available there also) The simple fact that they actually have a ruleset, instead of debating which dice to use, puts them firmly above M42 in my mind.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But let's look at the rules, (specifically, what they mean for Daemons) after the jump.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm assuming you have the rules up in front of you, I won't quote them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Defensive action. This is a nice little bit that lets the player who got the second turn not get murdered just because they couldn't get their defensive stuff up. Giving less advantage to the player who goes first is always good.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For Daemons, this just means that we don't have to worry about going first or second anymore- we can always go second firm in the knowledge that we lose nothing, and the opponent has lost a shooting phase.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">HQ's score. Well, this is helpful, certainly, to any elite unit with an HQ joined to it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For Daemons... if you thought plaguebearers were hard to remove, Great Unclean Ones can camp objectives now! MWAHAHAHA!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Also, your 4 Tzeentch chariots can also grab objectives. A 110 pt unit just got that much better.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm wondering if they'll change it to only things that use up HQ <i>slots</i> proper, so stuff like the necron Royal Court can't score, and thus every unit it attaches too.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Massive Trauma: Well, it makes expensive, multi-wound stuff like carnifexes more valuable, as it can't be insta-gibbed by a GK strike squad.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Daemons don't care :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">No dangerous- vehicles can move through terrain with impunity, deepstrike into terrain with no fear. This is temporary, but it is nice for the moment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The changes to difficult terrain are good. No more worrying that you'll roll 1's for movement. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jump infantry, jetbikes, and the like aren't slowed by terrain. Good.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Running is changed- no more worrying about running an inch, you'll always go at least 3".</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Cover is harder to get for everyone: units have to be 75% in cover, and vehicles and Monstrous Creatures always have their cover save reduced by 1. Excellent. Only makes our invulnerables more relevant, and our Soul Grinder was never getting cover anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Rapid fire can move and fire one shot at 24", Gets Hot! is gone, and Suppressing is added. Not bad changes, but let's see what suppressing does.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Suppressed units have -1BS, move through difficult terrain (4" instead of 6"), and run just D3. Only some weapons have suppressing, but those that do force a leadership test at -1 for each wound inflicted. Note it doesn't have to cause a wound to force the test, it's just a negative modifier for each wound caused.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, and Fearless is immune to suppression. Excellent. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Assault: yay! No more Initiative 1 for assaulting through terrain! Daemons, who largely lack grenades, appreciate the change.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hard Lock is awesome. It makes Deepstrike more reliable, and for Daemons, this means that we can go second, and then delay the first wave to turn 2, denying our opponents 2 shooting phases, and then dropping about half the second wave on turn 2 as well, bringing in 75% of the army in one turn! Scary!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, and no more bunching up for deepstrike, which means you can shoot with Tzeentch instead of running to spread out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Psychology... it's easier to rally, so focus on wiping out units instead of forcing them off the board.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Entanglement, the new hitting vehicles in close combat chart, and Overrun makes transports and vehicles in general more vulnerable to assault. Entanglement also gives some disadvantage to being in a transport, something that the game lacked before.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And finally, the list of weapons with suppressing! Notably, Warpfire! I would have liked Daemonic Gaze and Breath of Chaos to get it, but eh, daemons got helped a lot with a lot of the other rules.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">That's it! Go ahead and contribute on the forums: do a battle and send in the batrep, or just offer your opinion.</span>SnaleKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10056706364194282487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4951631797103855929.post-24090935836518975302012-05-31T09:06:00.001-07:002012-05-31T09:06:07.019-07:00A Different Sort of Foe: Khorne & Nurgle<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Jya2nCqU_WQ/T8eWtj07wCI/AAAAAAAAAG4/wAiFBSjnOIw/s1600/daemoncover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Jya2nCqU_WQ/T8eWtj07wCI/AAAAAAAAAG4/wAiFBSjnOIw/s1600/daemoncover.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So you guys think I like to have pretentious names for bundles of articles that are similar, and then claim they're a series- you are entirely correct. A Different Sort of Foe is a series where I post lists, either by request or unsolicited, but mostly the former.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today we have a request by Ron_Fury, of a Khorne/Nurgle army. Now I don't normally write themed Daemon lists: it's like writing a Grey Knights list with nothing but purifiers, rhinos, crowe and a couple psyfledrea- oh. That list works. Bad analogy. Well... It's like making a space marine list with only things that have 2 "A"'s in the name- you arbitrarily cut yourself off from a bunch of good units.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">However, Khorne-Nurgle sounds just crazy enough to work! Let's try it!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here, the inabilty to put different independent characters together is sort of annoying- I wanted to put a Herald of Khorne with the plaguebearers.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
Use the Phelgms, Tongues, and autocannons to crack open transports, one at a time. Any infantry out of a vehicle will be severely punished by the bloodcrushers and Great Unclean ones, who, you may have noticed, have non-ignorable anti-tank ability.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The horrific mass of 3 soul Grinders, 2 Great Unclean Ones, 3 5-man squads of bloodcrushers, 2 blight drones and 2 squads of plaguebearers will horribly confuse the target priority of all but the most focused player. Multiplicity of Target Syndrome at it's finest.</div>
<div>
Protip, kill the Soul Grinders first. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you can't use Forge World, drop the blight drones and instrument from one squad of plaguebearers, add 1 plaguebearer to the small squad, and bring all the bloodcrusher squads up to 7-strong.<br />
Don't nobody say a word about sacred numbers.</div>
